![]() Toward the end of the pregnancy, when the cervix thins, some blood is released into the cervix which causes the mucus to become bloody. Normally during pregnancy, the mucus can be described as cloudy, clear, thick, salty and sticky, although viscoelasticity may be the most appropriate term to describe it. The mucus plug acts as a protective barrier by deterring the passage of bacteria into the uterus, and contains a variety of antimicrobial agents, including immunoglobulins, and similar antimicrobial peptides to those found in nasal mucus. ![]() It is formed by a small amount of cervical mucus. stressing yourself out is likely to make your periods less regular, heavier or lighter than normal which may also have adverse affects on the things you are worrying about.A cervical mucus plug ( operculum) is a plug that fills and seals the cervical canal during pregnancy. Im not quite sure why or how I know all of this but I hope that helps! As for the mucus, there's nothing wrong with a bit of odd colouring or more than normal, unless there is a distinct and very pungent smell. The only time you should be worried about spotting as far as Im aware, is if it's a lot and very regular, painful, or if you're pregnant. Mucus can become very dark brown at times as well, again, totally normal. It might take a few days to appear because the mucus has to work its way out. If you've just had a period, likelyhood is theres going to be left over spots contained within it. The mucus is a barrier that protects your delicate insides from bacteria, germs and foreign bodies. And as for spotting in the mucus this is totally normal. Before and after periods this will turn from clear-beigy-solid white and back again, but not always in specific order or over a specific timeline. Mucus is often clear, or near enough clear. Ok, so firstly, if you've never looked THAT closely at mucus before, and now you are, you're going to notice a lot of things you never hd before, and these are going to make you worry, when you shouldnt be!! The pain is very slight and crampy and may be muscle. I have been a bit achy in the abdomen too, but this only started when I began worrying about PID a few months back, when I was also constipated, and I do a lot of poking as well so I am sure that isn't helping. If it was something serious would there be more blood spotting? I am just worried that the discolouration only comes with the mucus, but then I suppose that this would be the way that old blood would be shed as I suppose it wouldn't be enough to come down on its own. My pap smears in the past have been normal. I am late on a pap smear, because I changed doctors when I was due for one and then was abroad for two years and am waiting to buy health insurance so it has been about 5 or so years. May I ask if anyone else has brown with CM for the week after a period, and then if it is in larger amounts in the toilet bowl it may look slightly brown. Obviously I am worried that it may be slightly tinged but difficult to see. After my shower I went for a wee again and the wipe looked clear. It needed to be concentrated to look beige. There was no threads of blood or anything and when stretched it looked clear. I hope this isn't TMI but I picked it out and looked at it. Today (11 after period) I had been out all day, so when I came home and went to the toilet, a large blob of CM passed and it looked pale beige. Most of the time it has been clear, but if I look VERY closely it may have a slight pinkish to it. The last few days (9/10 after period) I have had CM again. After about this time I really did not have any discharge. This month, my period was normal, but perhaps a touch lighter but more stretched out (6 days), then the following five days I had cervical mucus that was tinged with brown, and once with a very thin thread of red. The second half of the cycle had no obvious spotting but no mucus either, until a day before my period. Then I spotted a bit more heavily (about 1/4 tsp of red/brown), but then I realise that this (spread over two days) would have been about ovulation time which I have heard is normal and in the past when I was younger I would sometimes spot at this time. ![]() Last month, the week after my period, every time I exercised I ended up spotting a little just a tinge in mucus. I have been on here recently worrying about something else, but in the same area, however now I need to know about cervical mucus. ![]()
